I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

In the meantime, start mopping up any water, position a bucket to catch drips, and remove valuable possessions from the area. If the mains water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
